Location:
North Male' Atoll, south of Meeru
Rating:
Medium to advanced
Dive site description:
An outside corner and channel all in one dive. During the
dive you pass the whole selection of reef types; top reef
with slope, caves, corner, big coral blocks and overhangs.
Famous for its beauty.
Depth range:
15 - 30 meters
Type of dive:
Medium to
strong drift dive. When currents are strong, beware of rip
currents in the channel.
Marine life:
One of the
best in the atoll, it is like a giant aquarium when conditions
are good. On the reef, divers have to elbow their way through
big schools of jacks, oriental sweet lips and others. Further
out, white tipped reef sharks, giant tunas, napoleons and
the occasional grey reef shark compete for your attention.
Schools of up to 40 eagle rays have been photographed here.
On the top reef, you would often encounter a school of the
odd-looking very rare hump head parrotfish, each measuring
about a meter.
Instructor's comment:
If you are experienced, listen carefully to the instructions,
to get the best out of this dive. If not follow your guide
closely and you will see the best of the reef and also know
how to deal with the different kinds of currents. |
