The Dive Schools
All
dive schools in the Maldives - whether they are on resort
islands or aboard cruise boats - are of international standard.
The professional service offered by these dive schools are
further enhanced by the beautiful lagoons and the warm clear
waters which provide the ideal environment for scuba diving.
PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), SSI
(Scuba Schools International), NAUI (National Association
of Underwater Instructors) and CMAS (World Underwater Federation)
training courses are on offer at most dive centers in the
Maldives. Most common among them are the PADI training courses.
The
format of diving in all the resorts are pretty much the
same - two boat dives a day and as many dives as you like
on the house reef. The two boat dives are usually one in
the morning and one in the afternoon. If you check beforehand
and choose a resort with a good house reef you can be out
diving anytime of the day. If you want to dive again after
the night has fallen, check with your resort or cruise boat
beforehand whether night dives are conducted. All resorts
have chosen dive sites which are located not further than
50 meters away from the resorts and all cruise boats take
you to the best dive sites in your atoll of travel. Your
dive boat will be a traditional Maldivian dhoni, which will
carry all your equipment until the moment you are at the
dive site.
